The construction of Chatham’s year-round tennis dome at St. Clair College Community Park has been delayed, with completion now anticipated by October 2025.
Tennis Clubs of Canada (TCC) cited equipment shortages as the primary reason for missing the original 2024 timeline.
“TCC informed administration they were unable to fulfill the agreement timelines due to delays in equipment which would not allow them to meet the construction period for 2024,” said Rob Pollock, Chatham-Kent’s Director, Parks, Fleet and Facilities in a report that goes to council on Monday. “TCC has indicated they are committed to constructing and operating the tennis dome and have given a timeline to fulfill their commitments to Chatham-Kent.”
Despite the delay, the project retains strong support, including a $200,000 grant from Tennis Canada, extended to 2025.
Pollock continued, “TCC has provided a construction schedule for the tennis dome which will have the construction starting in June 2025 and be completed by the middle of October 2025.”
The dome, part of a multi-phase park development, aligns with Chatham-Kent’s priorities for community growth and inclusivity.
