Victoria opens 11 new pickleball courts at Topaz Park

Victoria has expanded its recreational infrastructure with the opening of 11 new dedicated pickleball courts at Topaz Park, responding to growing demand for the sport across the city.

The new facility includes permanent nets, fenced courts, shaded seating areas, and lighting for evening play. According to the City of Victoria, the addition doubles the number of pickleball courts within city limits.

The courts are part of Phase 2 of the Topaz Park Improvement Plan; a broader redevelopment project focused on upgrades to recreation and public gathering spaces within the park.

Additional improvements completed as part of the project include upgraded walking pathways, a renewed outdoor fitness area and a youth-focused gathering space featuring bike racks and misting stations.

The city also says a fenced dog park is scheduled to open later this year.

Topaz Park, located near downtown Victoria, is one of the city’s most heavily used multi-sport parks and hosts a range of recreational amenities and community programming throughout the year.

Pickleball participation has grown rapidly across Canada in recent years, with municipalities expanding court access to meet increasing demand for the sport.
