A woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle following a well-being check in Kamloops, B.C.
The incident unfolded Feb. 23 when police were called to check on an unresponsive woman in the front seat of a “strangely parked” Jeep around 7:45 a.m., Kamloops RCMP said in a release issued Friday.
The vehicle, parked in the 800 block of Desmon Avenue in Brocklehurst, west Kamloops, had a broken rear passenger window and was parked with the driver’s side door left open, the report said.
Police arrived to find the Jeep had been moved and, upon investigation, found it had been reported as stolen earlier in February from B.C.’s 100 Mile House.
A Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP officer located the car in the Heffley Creek neighbourhood of Kamloops and “unsuccessfully attempted a traffic stop”, said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, during which the Jeep “struck a police cruiser.”
The woman collided with another police vehicle upon her escape and was successfully stopped, said police. The two officers involved in the collisions suffered no injuries, and their cars received minor damage, police added.
The woman was arrested without incident and held for a bail hearing, the statement said.
100 Mile House resident Cory Leah Maack, 45, has been charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, and driving while prohibited.
She was released on Feb. 24, with a next court appearance scheduled for March 24.
Police are requesting anyone who may have information or relevant dash camera video of the event to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2025-5072.
