One person was critically injured after being struck by a train in Vancouver Tuesday afternoon, according to paramedics.

First responders were called to the tracks near Heatley Avenue and Alexander Street just after 4 p.m., a spokesperson for BC Emergency Health Services said in an email.

“Three ambulances with primary care paramedics and two ambulances with advanced care paramedics responded to the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported to hospital in critical condition,” wrote Bowen Osoko.

The incident disrupted service on the West Coast Express.

TransLink, which operates the commuter train, directed inquiries to the railway company.

“There was a police incident involving the West Coast Express this afternoon. As this is a police matter involving a trespasser in CPKC jurisdiction, you can reach out to (CPKC) for additional information,” a spokesperson said in an email.

The railway, in a brief response to CTV News said, “we are aware of the incident in which a Westcoast Express train made contact with a person on the tracks.”

CTV News has also requested information from the Vancouver Police Department, alongside the railway’s own police force. This story will be updated if a response is received.
