Pedestrian dead after hit-and-run in Langley, police say

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run in Langley early Saturday morning, according to police.

Mounties said they were called to Fraser Highway between 232 and 240 streets around 4:40 a.m. for a “person in distress.”

Officers found a pedestrian “who had suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle,” the Langley RCMP said, but the driver did not remain at the scene.

“First responders immediately began life-saving efforts, tragically, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries at the scene,” Sgt. Zynal Sharoom said, in a statement.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service was called in and roads were closed in the area for the investigation.

Police asked drivers to avoid the area and said the closures were expected to last for several hours.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Langley RCMP at 604‑532‑3200.
