More than 1 tonne of meth seized in B.C. this year, CBSA says in annual recap

Officers with the Canada Border Services Agency seized more than a tonne of methamphetamines in B.C. this year, according to a year-end recap.

The CBSA said officers conducted 10,428 seizures of illegal drugs across the province between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31—up from 7,960 seizures recorded during the same period in 2024.

This year’s seizures included 14,279 kilograms of illicit cannabis, 1,041 kilograms of meth, 727 kilograms of cocaine and 303 kilograms of opioids, according to a CBSA release highlighting “results and accomplishments” in the province for 2025.

Last year, officers seized 3,378 kilograms of illicit cannabis, 988 kilograms of meth, 279 kilograms of cocaine, and 49 kilograms of opioids.

One of the largest single seizures took place in September at Vancouver International Airport, where officers found 241 kilograms of meth and 319 kilograms of cocaine in a shipment “declared as car parts destined for Australia,” according to the rundown.

In May, officers intercepted 4,300 litres of precursor chemicals—including those used in fentanyl and date-rape drugs—from the Tsawwassen Container Examination Facility, the CBSA said.

“I cannot overstate the importance of the work CBSA officers do each and every day,” said Kevin Brosseau, Canada’s fentanyl czar, in a statement.

“Their vigilance in intercepting fentanyl and other illicit substances before they reach our communities has had a profound impact on the safety of all Canadians.”

Officers also took more than $5.8 million in cash “suspected to be proceeds of crime” from January through October, according to the annual recap. That’s up from $1.2 million seized last year.

The number of seized firearms fell significantly, from 209 in 2024 to 133 in 2025.

Officers removed 1,245 people deemed inadmissible to Canada, including 234 who were removed for “serious inadmissibility” reasons such as criminality, the CBSA said.
