Mattress fire extinguished by Chilliwack firefighters

A burning mattress was found at the scene of a residential fire in Chilliwack Sunday morning, according to firefighters.

Crews were called to a house on the 10000 block of Gladys Street, which is between Elliott Avenue and Gilbert Avenue, at around 10 a.m., according to a release from the Chilliwack Fire Department.

Firefighters say they saw smoke coming from the windows when they arrived, so they connected to a nearby hydrant and made their way inside.

Crews found and extinguished a burning mattress in a basement bedroom.

No residents or firefighters were injured.

The Chilliwack Fire Department says it is working with Mounties to find out the cause of the mattress blaze.
