Man dies in scuba diving accident in West Vancouver

A man died in a scuba diving incident in Metro Vancouver Sunday afternoon, authorities have confirmed.

The West Vancouver Police Department says first responders were called to Whytecliff Park for a “scuba diver in distress” just before 1:30 p.m.

Firefighters, paramedics and the Canadian Coast Guard arrived to help but the 50-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

“The man’s next of kin have been notified. There are no indications of suspicious circumstances related to his sudden death,” police wrote in a statement.

“The West Vancouver Police Department extends our deepest condolences to this man’s family and friends, and all those who witnessed this incident today.”
