Police in Nanaimo are looking for a suspect vehicle after a hit-and-run crash sent a 65-year-old man to hospital Wednesday night.
The collision occurred around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Departure Bay Road and Wingrove Street, Nanaimo RCMP said in a news release Thursday.
Police, firefighters and paramedics all responded, and the victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the RCMP.
Witnesses told investigators the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk when a southbound vehicle struck him and continued down Departure Bay Road without stopping, police said, adding that they were able to obtain surveillance video from a nearby residence.
“This evidence, along with debris collected at the scene, suggests the suspect vehicle is a newer-model, dark-coloured SUV that will have damage to the front right corner,” the release reads.
Police did not share any photos or video with their release.
The crash closed the intersection for several hours while police investigated the scene. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
