Drivers are being warned to expect delays and congestion on Highway 1 in Hope Sunday as crews work to repair a sinkhole.
The Trans Canada at Flood Hope Road (Exit 165) has been reduced to a single lane in each direction since Thursday night when conditions “rapidly deteriorated,” according to the Transportation Ministry.
“Peak traffic volumes are expected between noon and 10 p.m. on Sunday, especially for traffic travelling west toward Vancouver due to spring break travel,” a statement from the province said.
“Drivers are urged to travel outside of these periods when possible or plan for additional travel time given the congestion expected.”

Speed limits will be reduced while work is underway and motorists are being reminded to obey all signage and watch for workers on the roadside.
There is no estimated time of reopening but the province says an update will be provided Monday.
The sinkhole first appeared in November of 2024, according to the ministry. Interim repairs were done immediately, but further reinforcements became necessary after several days of heavy rainfall last week.
