Early morning crash on Nanaimo Parkway leaves 2 dead

Police are investigating a crash on the Nanaimo Parkway on Feb. 20, 2025, left two people dead.

Two people died after a crash on the Nanaimo Parkway early Thursday morning, according to authorities.

Officers were called to the scene at the intersection of Highway 19 and Jingle Pot Road at 4 a.m., Nanaimo RCMP said in a news release.

“A car travelling northbound on Highway 19 turned left on a red light and was struck by a southbound semi trailer. The driver and passenger of the car did not survive and have not been identified at this time,” the statement said.

The RCMP’s Integrated Collision and Reconstruction Service was called in to assist with the investigation, as was the B.C. Coroners Service.

Drivers were told a closure of Highway 19 between the Cedar Road intersection and Northfield Interchange would last until the afternoon.
