Delta police appeal for witnesses, video after semi crash

Published:

The Delta Police Department shared this photo of a crash that closed Highway 17 on Dec. 9, 2024.

Police in Delta are trying to gather more information about what led up to a crash where a semi-truck plowed through a concrete median on a busy highway during the afternoon rush hour.

Officers were called to the scene on the 7500 block of Highway 17 at 3 p.m. Monday, according to a statement form the Delta Police Department.

No one was injured, but the road was close for six hours.

"A fully loaded semi-truck drove through a concrete centre barrier, through two lanes of oncoming traffic, and a concrete barrier on the shoulder of the road. When it came to rest, it blocked one eastbound lane, two westbound lanes, and the westbound shoulder of Highway 17," according to authorities.

Authorities are asking the public for assistance as they work to determine the cause of the crash.

"Specifically, officers are looking for any actions between the truck in question and any other vehicles travelling in the same direction at the time of the collision," the statement from DPD says.

"If you witnessed any pre-collision driving behaviour associated to this truck or other traffic around the truck, if you witnessed the collision itself, or if you have video, our collision investigators would like to speak with you.”

Anyone with information or video is urged to call 604-946-4411 and reference file number 2024-23160.
