2 teens caught ‘red-handed’ by Hamilton police in midst of alleged vehicle theft

Published:

Hamilton police say they have arrested two 16-year-olds after they were caught 'red-handed' in the midst of a vehicle theft and driving dangerously.

Two teenagers were caught “red-handed” in the midst of an alleged vehicle theft, Hamilton police say.

Detectives say they saw a stolen vehicle drop off two people by another stolen vehicle before speeding away on Wednesday.

In videos shared by police, what appears to be a white Honda CRV and a black Toyota SUV are seen driving along a residential street. In each vehicle, one person on the passenger side is seen sitting on the window sill of the car while moving.

Investigators say they focused their attention on the two people who hopped into the second vehicle, arresting them before they could escape.

Upon further investigation, police say the second vehicle was used in a gas theft the night before. They did not provide further details about this alleged robbery.

On Thursday, Hamilton police say they arrested two 16-year-olds, a girl and a boy. Together they face charges for theft, possession and occupying a stolen motor vehicle. The charges have not been tested in court.

Their identities are protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police urge the public to never leave their vehicles running and unattended, lock their car doors, and to install anti-theft devices.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
