Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a four-car crash in Brampton Thursday afternoon that involved a police cruiser and left one person seriously injured.
Police say the collision happened at approximately 4:20 p.m. near Mississauga Road and Steeles Avenue.
In an email to CP24, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said two Peel Regional Police officers in separate cruisers were responding to a call for service in the area when one collided with a civilian vehicle.
Two other vehicles were also involved in the collision, the SIU said.
The 43-year-old driver of the civilian vehicle was transported to hospital with a serious injury, but has since been released. No other serious injuries were reported, according to the SIU.
Peel police originally said that two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Independent of the police, the SIU is called into investigate any instance involving officers and civilians that result in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
The exact circumstances leading up to the crash are unclear.
