A cyclist is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle in Toronto’s east end Thursday afternoon, police say.

It happened near the Queen Street Viaduct, where Queen Street splits into King Street East, at approximately 2:15 p.m.

The 29-year-old cyclist was travelling westbound on Queen Street East when he made a left turn onto King Street.

At the same time, police said, a 75-year-old man driving a pickup truck eastbound on Queen Street struck the cyclist.

The cyclist was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

“Police are asking local residents and drivers who may have dash camera footage or witnessed the event to contact investigators,” police said in a news release.
