A 24-year-old Hamilton man is facing charges after four alleged carjacking attempts in the span of one hour last month.
Police say they received reports of the robberies on the morning of Jan. 31, between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., in the city’s east end, near Centre Mall, Cochrane Road, Queenston Road and Britannia Avenue.
It’s alleged that in each incident, the accused tried to steal the victims’ vehicle by demanding their keys and threatening violence. In one incident, police say an unidentified weapon was brandished.
While the suspect was successful in stealing one vehicle, it was later recovered in Central Hamilton and he was identified by police through surveillance footage that was submitted by the public.
The suspect, identified by police as Cody Atkinson, was arrested on Tuesday on an outstanding warrant for vehicle theft. He’s now charged with two counts of robbery, and one count of armed robbery, motor vehicle theft with violence, and motor vehicle theft.
Atkinson is also charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and four counts of breach of probation.
