Traffic stop turns into drug bust on Thunderchild First Nation

Three people have been charged after illicit drugs and drug-trafficking paraphernalia were seized on Thunderchild First Nation.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on May 11, officers with Meadow Lake RCMP Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) stopped an SUV that police say matched the description of a stolen vehicle. Police later determined the SUV was the stolen vehicle and arrested its three occupants.

During the search, officers found and seized 94 grams of methamphetamine, 11 grams of cocaine, drug-trafficking paraphernalia, an imitation firearm and other weapons.

As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old, a 35-year-old, and a 27-year old, all from Thunderchild First Nation, face charges, including possession of an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine, and possession for the purpose of trafficking in methamphetamine.

Police say the 26-year-old has additionally been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and failing to comply.

All three accused appeared in Onion Lake Provincial Court on May 13.

Thunderchild First Nation is located about 40 kilometres south of Meadow Lake.
