Saskatoon crews respond to morning house fire in Mount Royal

Published:

WATCH: Saskatoon crews were called to a house fire in Mount Royal Tuesday morning, with the cold weather proving an obstacle to those on the front lines.

The Saskatoon Fire Department says one person was injured in blaze in the Mount Royal neighbourhood on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 200 block of Vancouver Avenue North around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, with crews saying they saw flames from a main floor window at the back of the house, the department said in a news release.

One neighbour told CTV News she saw heavy smoke coming from the roof, and witnessed a cat run out of the house.

The fire department says everyone that was home at the time managed to evacuate, including four cats. One person was taken to hospital with injuries.

Once the fire was out, the department says the crew used pressure-ventilation to remove smoke and toxins from the building, and the frigid temperatures meant crews had to switch out more frequently.

Neighbours say the home was a rental property with a rotating door of tenants, and it appeared renovations were underway at the time of the fire.
