Sask. woman arrested after lengthy stolen vehicle investigation

A two-month manhunt came to an end on Friday with the arrest of a 31-year-old Prince Albert woman wanted by the RCMP.

Samantha Bird, who police say lied about her identity during an investigation into a stolen vehicle incident back in November 2024, was arrested on Feb. 14.

She was one of four people accused arrested after a vehicle theft on Nov. 22 in Prince Albert that led to a high-risk traffic stop on a northern Saskatchewan highway.

Officers chased the vehicle and attempted multiple traffic stops east on Highways 55 and 123 after police were told to be on the lookout for an SUV reported as stolen in Prince Albert.

The vehicle was eventually boxed in and rammed a police vehicle before coming to a stop.

The four occupants were arrested, and a large amount of ammunition was also seized from the vehicle, according to police.

Three suspects — Jamyn Crawford, 28, Bryce Bird, 25, and Kayla Cook, 27 — were charged with multiple crimes.

RCMP say Samantha Bird, who was also arrested for the carjacking, lied about her identity when speaking with police. She was released on conditions and was scheduled to appear in court.

Following that, a warrant was issued for the 31-year-old woman on charges including obstructing a peace officer and fraudulently personating another person.

Bird was finally taken into custody by the Prince Albert Police Service on Feb. 14. She appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday.
