World Curling Championships: Here’s when Canada plays in Moose Jaw

The BKT Tires World Men’s Curling Championships begins Saturday in Moose Jaw.

In total, 13 teams will face off in hopes of being named the best in the curling world and qualify their nation for the 2026 Olympic Games in Milano Cortina, Italy.

Canada, led by Calgary’s Glencoe rink skip Brad Jacobs, will play 12 games through the preliminary round over seven days.

Team Jacobs is the 8th ranked team according to the World Curling Rankings heading into the competition.

This is Jacobs’ second World Championships as a skip. He won silver in 2013, his last appearance.

They get things started with three games over weekend. Their toughest of the three, likely against Germany’s Marc Muskatewitz, who is ranked 8th in the World.

Bruce Mouat and his Gogar Park Curling Club team are going into next week’s tournament as the top team in the world.

Team Mouat has also won three of the four Grand Slam of Curling events this season. His best finish at a Worlds is third place in 2018.

Tuesday morning, Team Canada will take on the defending Olympic and World Champions, Niklas Edin and Team Sweden.

Jacobs will wrap up the week with two tough matches.

Thursday evening Canada will take on the fourth-ranked Team Switzerland, led by Yannick Schwaller.

Before Canada concludes preliminary play against the rival United States on Friday.

Playoffs begin Saturday April 5.

The bronze and gold medal draw are set for April 6 at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
