Residents of Regina trailer court create association in response to eviction notices

Published:

WATCH: More residents at a Regina trailer court have been told they’ll need to move. Many are hoping they can change that.

Over 50 residents of the Glen Elm Mobile Home Community have created an association in response to eviction notices being mailed out in their area.

On Feb. 8, the residents met to form the Glen Elm Retirement Community Association. The group’s purpose is to represent the members and come to an agreement with the community’s management so everyone can stay.

“It’s very distressing that 14 of our residents are being asked to leave in the middle of winter in -30 temperatures,” said Randall Edge, the president of the Glen Elm Retirement Community Residents Association.

On Jan. 27, a number of residents received notices which said they have until April 30, 2025 to move out.

The notice explained the community has aging water and sewage infrastructure which could shut down at any moment.

Management has given the affected tenants some options, including moving their home to a different location. Homeowners can sell their home, but it needs to be off the property by April 30.

Demolition charges are being waived for those who don’t want to sell or move their property.

Edge said he hopes more options can be worked out as soon as possible, including a surcharge to fix the infrastructure.

If there are plans to significantly alter the location, he wants the residents to be a part of the process and decision making.

“We want to really emphasize, we belong here. We have been here for 70 years, and we should continue for the years to come,” he said.

CTV News reached out the community’s management who declined to comment on the situation.
