WATCH: As Hallee Mandryk reports, a teen accused of manslaughter on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation appeared in court on Monday.

The Saskatchewan RCMP says a teenager from Regina has been charged with manslaughter in connection to the death of a 31-year-old man from Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation.

RCMP identified the victim as 31-year-old Drew Jack. According to an RCMP news release, Jack died in hospital.

RCMP also clarified on Monday that the initial call to the File Hills Police Service was for a medical emergency and not a sudden death as previously reported.

File Hills Police Service was called to the first nation at around 3 a.m. on Friday.

The teen cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The accused made their first appearance in court Monday morning.

In an email to CTV News, RCMP said it will not be releasing the teenager’s gender or age because it could contribute to them being publicly identified.

“Although Regina is a large community, the specific details of the investigation, paired with specific age details, increases the likelihood of the accused being identified in this instance,” RCMP said in the email.

The accused was remanded in custody until their next appearance on Thursday, after being reminded of their no contact order - which includes several individuals.

They are also in the process of seeking legal aid.

Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation is located about 100 kilometres east of Regina.
