Regina police say no laws broken at city home where birds were being butchered

Regina police say an investigation into a report of potential animal abused involving chicken and ducks was deemed non-criminal.

Police were called to a home in east Regina over the weekend for reports of potential animal abuse. What officers discovered could be described as odd, but was ultimately considered “non-criminal in nature.”

On Saturday, Nov. 22, at around 2 p.m., officers with the Regina Police Service (RPS) were called to a home on Arbour Grove Drive for a report of potential animal abuse involving ducks.

Officers arrived at the home, where they met Animal Protection officers.

An investigation determined that the home’s residents had bought upwards of 70 chickens and ducks from local farms to be butchered for consumption — which is a legal act, police said.

As a result, no further investigation or police involvement was needed.

“The call for service was deemed non-criminal and no further police action was required,” a statement from RPS read.

The Regina Humane Society said on Monday that it was aware of the situation and is “in the process of looking into it” — adding that it had no further comment.
