Cleanup underway after train derails west of Moose Jaw

WATCH: No one was injured early Tuesday morning after a train derailment about 25 kilometres west of Moose Jaw.

Cleanup is underway after a CPKC train derailed west of Moose Jaw early Tuesday morning.

According to the rail line, a train carrying loaded shipping containers derailed just after midnight in the Rural Municipality of Caron, about 25 kilometers west of Moose Jaw.

No injuries were reported from the scene.

CPKC says that 18 intermodal rail cars were involved in the derailment – one of which contained batteries.

“No other dangerous goods are involved. There are no leaks of products and is no threat to public safety,” the rail line said in an update.

As of 10 a.m., CPKC crews were at the scene of the derailment. More personnel and equipment are set to arrive to begin a cleanup.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

Saskatchewan RCMP confirmed that it received a report of the derailment Tuesday morning.
