Man facing charges after police respond to fight involving a rideshare in Brockville, Ont.

A 28-year-old man is facing charges for assaulting a peace officer after police responded to a fight involving two people using a rideshare in Brockville, Ont.

Someone called 9-1-1 at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday, reporting a fight involving two people in the area of Stewart Boulevard.

The Brockville Police Service says the investigation shows several people were travelling from Montreal to Toronto, as part of a rideshare, when one of the passengers became belligerent towards the driver.

“The vehicle stopped in Brockville to remove the subject, which resulted in the altercation becoming physical,” police said, adding the “subject assaulted the driver by striking him.”

The driver was treated for minor injuries.

Officers located the man at a nearby gas station and retrieved the driver’s bag.

“The subject was making discriminatory comments towards one of the officers and actually slapped the officer in the face with his passport,” police said. “The male was placed under arrest and was resistant.”

Police say the man was found to be in possession of a quantity of fentanyl and was also on probation with conditions.

He was taken to the Brockville Police station, where police say he “purposely urinated through the cellblock area.”

The driver of the rideshare told police they did not wish to pursue charges.

Police say the suspect is facing charges of assaulting a peace officer, mischief under $5,000, possession of fentanyl and failing to comply with probation.
