A winter weather travel advisory has ended for Ottawa in time for evening voters, as Environment Canada is anticipating 5-10 centimetres of snow on election day.
The anticipated amount of snow will mark the snowiest Ontario election day since Dec. 1, 1926, when Ottawa received 9.4 cm of snow.
The weather agency says light snow will intensify later this morning. It is expected to taper to flurries by the evening.
“Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for taillights ahead and be prepared to stop,” reads the weather agency’s website.
The Ottawa Police Service took to X to remind drivers to adjust their speed and “drive accordingly.”
“Drive according to the road conditions and leave yourself extra distance to stop safely,” said the city’s police service on X.
“Ensure your car windows are clear and reduce your speed.”
