Body of missing scuba diver recovered in St. Lawrence River in Kingston, Ont.

The body of a scuba diver missing in the St. Lawrence River in Kingston, Ont. has been recovered, according to police.

Emergency crews responded to a call for a scuba diver in distress in the water, approximately 50 feet offshore, near Ontario Street just after 3 p.m. Sunday.

“The diver was safely removed from the water by Kingston Fire Rescue and taken to hospital with minor injuries,” the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said on X.

“Another diver, who was also in the water surfaced after being in distress, but was not able to recover. That person is unaccounted for currently.”

An OPP spokesperson tells CTV News Ottawa the body was recovered just after 9:30 a.m. Monday after police divers resumed the search.

“He was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the OPP said in a media release. “The Chief Coroner of Ontario will continue the investigation into any possible causes of this incident. The deceased is not being identified at this time.”

Canadian Coast Guard vessels searched the area until late Sunday evening.
