Ottawa firefighters rescue trapped driver who hit hydro pole, veered off rural road

Ottawa firefighters rescued a driver who veered off the road in a rural part of the city’s south end on Saturday evening.

Ottawa Fire Services say a 911 caller reported a single vehicle in a ditch on Snake Island Road, east of Kearnes Way at approximately 7:32 p.m.

Firefighters arriving on scene found an electric vehicle had hit a hydro pole before landing approximately 20 metres away into a wooded area, Ottawa fire said in a news release.

Crews used specialized tools to remove the trapped driver from the vehicle.

An Ottawa paramedics spokesperson says the person was transported to hospital but information on injuries was not immediately available.

Firefighters disconnected the batteries prior to clearing the scene.

The cause of the crash is unclear.
