Last call extended at Ottawa bars, restaurants until 4 a.m. during FIFA World Cup

Ottawa bars and establishments will be allowed to sell alcohol until 4 a.m. during the FIFA World Cup.

The Ontario government has announced it will extend the sale and service of alcohol to support tourism and local businesses. The FIFA World Cup runs from June 11 to July 19, with games being played in Toronto and Vancouver.

Ontario is extending last call at bars and restaurants in Ottawa and across Ontario from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. during the World Cup.

“This summer, fans visiting from around the world will gather in Toronto to celebrate world-class sport,” Attorney General Doug Downey said in a statement.

“Allowing restaurants and bars to stay open later means that fans can fully experience the energy, excitement and atmosphere of the tournament while supporting jobs, strengthening local businesses and driving economic growth across Ontario.”

Select LCBO outlets in Ottawa and the Greater Toronto Area will also have extended hours between June 11 and July 19. The LCBO outlets will be allowed to open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

In February, Ontario temporarily extended alcohol service hours ahead of the men’s gold medal hockey game at the Winter Games.
