Ex-Woodstock mayor jailed after conviction in sexual assault case, more sentencing pending

Former Woodstock mayor Trevor Birtch has been sentenced to four years and eight months in jail.

The decision was handed down Tuesday by Justice Spencer Nicholson after Birtch was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault of a woman he was in an intimate relationship with.

In another case involving a different woman, a mistrial was declared and Birtch then pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault and one count of assault.

He will be sentenced in that case on June 16 and will serve the sentences concurrently.

Birtch showed little or no reaction in the courtroom on Tuesday when he was led away to start serving his sentence
