Husband of missing Ottawa woman charged with 1st-degree murder

The Ottawa Police Service says the husband of a missing woman is now facing a murder charge.

Last week, police said the disappearance of Olga Konokhova, 64, was considered suspicious. The homicide unit was leading the investigation.

On Friday, police charged her husband, 63-year-old Viktor Konokhov, with first-degree murder.

“Olga was reported missing after last being in contact with someone in January 2026. Her remains have not been located, and the investigation remains ongoing,” police said in a news release.

This is Ottawa’s sixth homicide of the year. Police are also classifying it as a femicide, which the Ottawa Police Service defines as “the misogynist killing of women and girls because of their gender, overwhelmingly committed by men.”

Konokhov is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
