Ottawa is a winter wonderland after a 15 cm snowfall, making for perfect conditions for the second weekend of Winterlude. CTV’s Kimberley Johnson reports.

It’s the second weekend of Winterlude, and the snowy weather has families coming out to celebrate the winter season.

Slipping down the tube slide at Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau with her dad, 10-year-old Bethany says she knows exactly what she loves.

“Time with family and the slides,” she says.

Her mom, close behind, says that is why they try to make it up from Pembroke, Ont. every year.

“It’s about being together as a family and getting outside.”

At Snowflake Kingdom, festivalgoers can enjoy slides and snowy rock-climbing walls, as well as obstacle courses.

Ricky Jeffrey came with his daughter Kiera and her Grade 1 class. It’s a first for him.

“The Beaver Tails, the atmosphere and the kids,” he says of what he’s enjoying. “Seeing them smile.”

On Sparks Street in Ottawa, the ice sculptures have caught the eye of David Ajayi. He says the sculpture depicting the 60th anniversary of the Canadian Flag is the one he likes the most.

A Canadian Flag sits above a brick fireplace made with ice. He says it’s an impressive feat.

“I think it’s a crazy skill to be able to be something like this,” he says. “It probably takes years of learning and understanding how to make this. And I think it’s a work of art.”

Winterlude is on until Feb. 17.
