The building housing Dunn’s Famous Deli on Dalhousie Street in Ottawa’s ByWard Market has been sold and the new owners will close the restaurant.

The establishment has called the corner of Dalhousie and George streets home for more than 15 years, but the building went up for sale earlier this year.

The owner is thanking all his customers over the years and says he is sad to leave; however, he says the market is not what it once was.

Several businesses in the ByWard Market have closed in the last year, including Saslove’s Meat Market, Oz Kafe, Pure Kitchen, the Cupcake Lounge, the Courtyard Restaurant, and the Blue Cactus.

With this closure, there will be no Dunn’s locations outside of Montreal.

The Ottawa restaurant’s final day will be March 23.

It appears a Chuck’s Roadhouse Bar & Grill franchise will be opening in the site after Dunn’s closes. A franchise at 355 Dalhousie St. is listed as “sold” on the Chuck’s Roadhouse website.

It’s not known when the new restaurant will open. Efforts to reach the Chuck’s Roadhouse parent company Obsidian Group were unsuccessful Tuesday.
