Timmins teen charged with three armed robberies

An 18-year-old from Timmins has been charged in connection with multiple robberies in the city, including one that took place early in the morning Friday.

Police responded a call about a theft that took place around 2:52 a.m. in the 500 block of Algonquin Boulevard East.

“An individual who brandished a knife … demanded cigarettes,” police said in a news release.

“Following the incident, the accused fled the scene and the complainant immediately contacted police, providing a description and the suspect’s direction of travel.”

Found in a parking lot

Police found the suspect in a nearby parking lot and he was arrested.

“Further investigation has determined that the accused is also responsible for two other robbery occurrences,” the release said.

Charges include three counts of robbery with a weapon, shoplifting, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime, three counts of weapons possession, and one count each of opioid possession and failing to comply with an undertaking.

He was scheduled to appear later Friday for a bail hearing.

“The safety of our community remains our top priority, the complainant’s quick thinking in reporting the incident, combined with the prompt response of our officers in this case led to the successful apprehension of a suspect linked to multiple robberies, preventing further harm,” police Chief Sydney Lecky said in the news release.

“We encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help keep our community safe.”
