Industrial workplace fatality in Timmins under investigation

The Ontario Ministry of Labour says it is investigating after a worker was struck and killed by equipment at a Timmins wrecking yard.

Timmins police and the Ontario Ministry of Labour is investigating “an industrial workplace fatality” after a body was found Friday morning.

The discovery was made at a scrap yard on Highway 101 West and Malette Lumber Road in Timmins.

When asked, police spokesperson Michelle St. Louis said in an email to CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca around noon Friday they received a call “not too long ago.”

“(The) investigation just started,” St. Louis said.

“I don’t have further details at the moment. I’ll be able to provide more details once we know more.”

Worker fatally struck

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development was called in to assist in the investigation, police said.

“The incident involved a worker employed by Creative Recycling, who was fatally injured after being struck by equipment,” the ministry told CTV News in an email statement.

“A ministry inspector has been assigned to investigate.”

Friday afternoon, a Timmins Police Service cruiser was seen parked at the entrance of the scrap yard.
