Teen charged with attempted murder, assault in Moosonee: OPP

A 15-year-old has been charged with attempted murder following an assault in Moosonee on Thursday evening.

A 15-year-old from Shelburne, Ont., has been charged with attempted murder and multiple other offences following an assault in Moosonee on Thursday evening.

Ontario Provincial Police said officers from the James Bay Detachment along with Weeneebayko Area Health Authority paramedics responded to a report of an unresponsive person at a Hutchison Road residence around 8 p.m. on April 10. The victim, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to hospital by ambulance.

“As a result of the investigation, officers executed a warrant at a residence on Hutchison Road and arrested one individual,” said police in a news release.

The teen faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstruction of a peace officer and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

“The name of the accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and will not be released,” OPP said.

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

Authorities said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
