A Sudbury driver has been charged with dangerous driving and is a suspect in other incidents following his arrest March 3 near Toronto.

Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release they received several complaints about a vehicle on Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), a major roadway in Toronto.

Following up on the complaints, police saw the vehicle at 10:48 p.m. March 3 “travelling at an extremely high rate of speed on the Fort Erie bound QEW near Guelph Line in the City of Burlington,” police said.

“The vehicle was a dark-coloured SUV with the four-way flashers activated and was estimated to be driving in excess of 200 km/h at times and using the shoulder to pass vehicles.”

Burlington Skyway

Police stopped the driver just before the Burlington Skyway bridge and placed him under arrest.

The 45-year-old from Sudbury was charged with dangerous driving and released from custody, with a court date of April 7 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Burlington.

“This vehicle description and driving action matches other recent incidents on the QEW reported to police by drivers between Burlington and Niagara,” police said.

Those incidents include three reports from Feb. 25 at 9:30 p.m. of a similar vehicle driving dangerously on the Fort Erie bound QEW, and four reports Feb. 27 of a similar vehicle driving dangerously on the Toronto bound QEW.

“Police are investigating as to whether these incidents are also linked to the involved vehicle and driver,” the release said.

“The OPP is asking anyone who may have dashcam footage or information related to these incidents to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.”

If anyone sees someone driving dangerously or impaired, they are urged to call 911 and report it.
