Sudbury mining supervisor wins $1M in Lotto 6/49 draw

A mining supervisor from Greater Sudbury won $1 million in the March 21 Lotto 6/49 gold ball draw.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. said in a news release that the 44-year-old winner, identified as ‘David R,’ said he has been playing the lottery for more than 20 years.

He redeemed a Lotto 6/49 Free Play, which led him to his first big lotto win. He said that he told his family over dinner and they were shocked.

“They didn’t believe me for one second,” he said in the news release.

“Once they discovered it was real, they were so happy. It feels surreal.”

David said he plans to put his winnings toward hospital expenses and relocation from Sudbury to Toronto.

“We also hope to donate to SickKids and support some family members,” he said.

“It’s been a difficult time for us lately, and this win came at the right time.”

The Gold Ball Draw guarantees a $1 million prize, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can exceed $60 million.

The winning ticket was purchased at Gateway Newstands on University Avenue in Toronto.
