Sault suspect hit dog with a shovel, police say

A 44-year-old man in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with assault and injuring an animal in connection with an incident that took place last fall.

Police responded at 7 p.m. Sept. 23, 2025, to a disturbance on Pentagon Boulevard.

“An investigation revealed the accused verbally threatened to harm a victim while holding a shovel,” police said in a news release April 22.

Minor injuries

“The victim and the accused are familiar with one another. Through the investigation, detectives also learned the accused struck a dog with a shovel, causing minor physical injuries. The dog does not belong to the victim. A warrant was obtained for the accused’s arrest.”

He was finally taken into custody April 16 and charged with assault with a weapon, injuring an animal, disobeying a court order, uttering threats and failing to comply with a court order.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on July 13.
