When Sault Ste. Marie City Council begins budget deliberations for 2024, they'll be starting with a sizeable tax levy increase.

If the budget is approved as-is, citizens can expect an increase of 7.2 per cent.

The budget report, which will be presented to council on Nov. 20, points to inflation and rising costs of materials as aggravating factors.

However, Malcolm White, the city’s chief administrative officer, said there are some positives heading into the new year as he says the city is poised for a level of growth not seen in the last four decades, pointing to private sector investments in the local industrial, commercial and housing sectors.

Budget deliberations are set for Dec. 11 and Dec. 12.
