Police say Sudbury suspect on probation crashed stolen vehicle while impaired

A 26-year-old from Greater Sudbury has been charged with several offences after Ontario Provincial Police investigated a collision Wednesday morning.

Police responded around 11:40 a.m. to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 17 in Markstay-Warren.

While there were no injuries, investigating officers quickly realized the Sudbury driver not only gave them a false name, they appeared to be impaired.

"That driver was arrested and then transported back to the OPP detachment for further testing," the OPP said in a news release Thursday.

An investigation revealed the true identity of the suspect and that the vehicle was stolen. Charges include impaired driving, refusing to comply with a demand, possession of stolen property worth more than $5,000, failing to comply with probation orders, two counts of driving while prohibited and three counts of driving while suspended.

The accused was held for bail court and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 14 in Sudbury.
