A 44-year-old from Red Deer, Alta., has been charged with impaired driving after police received a complaint about a vehicle “swerving all over the road” on Highway 17.

The incident took place April 12 around 7:30 p.m. just east of Sault Ste. Marie near the community of Desbarats.

“Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic complaint of an eastbound white car with no licence plates that was swerving all over the road at inconsistent speeds,” police said in a news release Tuesday.

Weaving side to side

“Police observed the white car to be weaving from side to side and struggling to maintain its lane. A traffic stop was initiated near Garden Bay Road in Plummer Additional Township (west of Bruce Mines).”

Upon speaking with the driver, police concluded that they were inebriated and they were arrested and charged with driving while impaired by alcohol.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 20.

The driver was issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was impounded for seven days.
