A search warrant executed on Daawema Road in Wiikwemkoong led to the seizure of a large cache of cocaine, weapons and the arrest of 11 people, police said on Tuesday.
The drug raid was conducted by Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, with help from OPP tactics and rescue unit, OPP emergency response team and UCCM canine unit.
“Police seized a quantity of cocaine with a street value of over $20,000 and other evidence of drug trafficking,” Wiikwemkoong police said in a news release.
“Additionally, one firearm, several replica handguns and a taser were seized.”
The list of people arrested:
- A 37-year-old Wiikwemkoong man was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a firearm, failure to comply with recognizance. He was subsequently arrested on an outstanding warrant with Toronto Police.
- A 38-year-old Wiikwemkoong woman was arrested for an outstanding warrant with Wikwemikong police and released with a May court date.
- A 32-year-old Wiikwemkoong woman was arrested for an outstanding warrant and released with a new court date.
- A 25-year-old Wiikwemkoong woman was arrested on two outstanding warrants with Manitoulin OPP and was released with a May court date.
- A 30-year-old Wiikwemkoong woman was arrested for several warrants and turned over to Manitoulin OPP.
- A 46-year-old Wiikwemkoong man was arrested for an outstanding warrant with York Regional Police. Additional charges were laid for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
- A 42-year-old Wiikwemkoong man was arrested for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and released with a May court date.
- A 32-year-old woman was arrested on a warrant with Wikwemikong Police and released with a May court date.
- A 38-year-old Wiikwemkoong woman was arrested on outstanding warrants and turned over to West Nipissing OPP.
- A 38-year-old man was arrested on outstanding warrants with Wikwemikong police and Manitoulin OPP. He was additionally charged with failure to comply with the conditions of his recognizance and held for a bail hearing.
- A 25-year-old woman was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant with Wikwemikong police and released with a May court date.
The investigation is a part of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service’s drug enforcement strategy and offender management program.
