Police in northwestern Ontario are sharing tips to remain safe on the roads during cold winter weather.
Sgt. Kyle Arnold, who supervises the Armstrong Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment, recently reminded motorists travelling long lonely highways in northern Ontario – especially in areas with no cellphone reception – to plan ahead on social media.
“Let a family, friend, coworker know what your travel plans are and what time they can approximately expect you,” he said.
Police officials also recommended drivers pack an emergency kit in their vehicle – including cold weather gear, blankets and a first aid kit.

Earlier last week, the Kenora OPP detachment also reminded motorists to ensure they unplug their block heater before driving off after coming across a vehicle with an extension cord trailing behind it.

“Here is to driving with care and getting to your destination safely,” said Arnold.
