Northern Ont. teens charged with trying to steal alcohol from grocery store

Three teens – two aged 16 and one 18 – have been charged with trying to steal alcohol from a grocery store on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake.

Ontario Provincial Police responded around 6 p.m. March 11, police said in a news release Thursday.

“As store staff attempted to stop three individuals from leaving, the trio fled the scene, and one of them pushed an employee, causing them to fall and injure their shoulder,” police said.

Charged with assault

The 18-year-old, who is from Blind River, was arrested at 12:15 a.m. on March 12 and charged with assault and attempted shoplifting.

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on April 10.

The 16-year-old suspects, both from Elliot Lake, were arrested on March 12 at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively. Both are charged with attempted shoplifting and have court dates of April 3 and May 6.
