Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is on a mission to encourage Canadians not to let up on their boycott of American goods.
Angus said U.S. President Donald Trump’s pause on tariffs is not a victory and said he hopes residents continue to shop domestically.

“I’m encouraging Canadians to continue the boycott, continue supporting Canadian products, continue opposing what’s happening out of the United States because Donald Trump is a threat to us and he’s a threat to democracy around the world,” he said.
Angus appeared on U.S. broadcast news Monday afternoon. He was interviewed by CNN’s Brianna Keilar who asked if Canada is calling Trump’s bluff.
Angus said even though Trump paused the tariffs for a month, he said Canadians will never surrender to a convicted predator and it’s time for us to build an even stronger country.
“I was really struck by the British Columbia Premier Eby, who said there’s no going back from this point. We are in a different world as a nation,” he said.
“So let’s look at dropping tariffs provincially so B.C. can ship their wine to Ontario, and Ontario can ship their product to Quebec. We need to start building a west-east economy rather than being dependent on marketing to the south, because the Americans simply can’t be trusted anymore.”

In his interview on CNN, Angus also pointed out that Americans stand to lose about $1.25 billion from retaliatory tariffs and that Canadians would hunt their own leaders down if they bowed to kiss the ring of the man from Mar-A-Lago.
