Police say an impaired driver with a young child in the backseat almost collided head-on with a police cruiser in Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation.

In a social media post on Monday, the Anishinabek Police Service said the driver sped away after the near collision and is now facing several charges. The incident took place Sunday afternoon.

“Driver was found to be impaired and travelling with a young child,” the post said.

“Vehicle was impounded, his licence was suspended and (the) driver was charged with impaired operation over 80 and dangerous operation.”

Police said the Webbwood, Ont., man has also been charged with the equivalent of child endangerment and officers “ensured this child was well cared for during this time.”

The child has since been reunited with other family, police said Monday.
