“The southbound lane of Frood Road at College Street is closed at the underpass,” Sudbury police said on social media just before 1:30 p.m., before announcing it was reopened at 4:42 p.m.

City crews are out helping clear storm drains around town.

“Residents can help reduce water buildup on roads by clearing snow, ice, and debris from nearby catch basins,” the city said.

“Keeping these drains clear allows water to flow properly into the storm drainage system. In most cases, blocked catch basins can be opened by carefully chipping away any ice buildup.”

Rainfall warning

The weather alert issued by Environment Canada said total rainfall between 20 and 35 mm is expected through the evening.

“The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall,” the warning said.

“Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Keep children and pets away from creeks and riverbanks.”

Temperatures are expected to fall Wednesday night through Thursday morning with rain turning to snow.

“Ice pellets and freezing rain may occur during the transition. Snow and local blowing snow may result in hazardous travel Thursday morning,” the warning said.
