Five arrested in major drug busts in Thunder Bay, Ont.

A months-long investigation into drug trafficking has resulted in the seizure of large amounts of cocaine and crystal meth, Thunder Bay Ontario Provincial Police said Friday.

Five people have been arrested following the execution of a warrant Jan. 15 in Thunder Bay. The warrant resulted in the arrest of three people.

“Officers seized cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, weigh scales and currency from this residence,” police said in a news release.

“Later in the day, members of ROPE conducted a traffic stop and arrested another suspect in the investigation for outstanding warrants. The driver and passenger were arrested and charged, and a quantity of cocaine, currency and a pistol magazine were found in the vehicle.”

Another search warrant was executed Jan. 16 in Thunder Bay, where police seized more crystal meth, a loaded handgun, and two rifles from the residence.

Police also found scales, baggies and other items associated with drug trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, five individuals have been charged. Three of the suspects are from Thunder Bay, one is from Atikokan and one is from Calgary. They are charged with several drug trafficking and weapons offences.

“All individuals were remanded into custody and have a future bail court hearing,” police said.
