Hwy. 11 reopens after crash between Cochrane and Kapuskasing

Highway 11 has reopened after being closed for more than 15 hours to allow provincial police to investigate a motor vehicle crash.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had extended its closure of Highway 11 south to Iroquois Falls on Saturday morning following a collision Friday night.

“Closure extended following collision,” said police in an update at 10:18 a.m. on Saturday.

According to a tweet, the police service had initially closed the highway from Cochrane to Kapuskasing.

“Highway 11 is closed … following a collision,” police said on social media on Friday.

“OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) on scene.”

No details on the cause of the collision, if any charges are pending or the extent of any injuries have been released by police.

The Ministry of Transportation’s Traveller Information Service indicates the initial highway closure began shortly after 10 p.m.

The highway is was closed from the Highway 11/Highway 67 Junction in Iroquois Falls to Clear Lake Road in Kapuskasing.

No detours were provided by police or the ministry during the closure.

The roadway reopened at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

CTV News has reached out to the OPP for more details about the crash, but those calls have not yet been returned.
